Here is a little ditty by Son House about a letter he wished he never received...It may just be true that the art of letter writing is dead...
I got a letter this morning, how you reckon it read?
It said, hurry, hurry, 'cause that gal you love is dead.
For the guitar geeks: I believe Son House is playing a metal-bodied National guitar with a copper slide.
Many performers have covered or created their own unique versions of the song from blues greats Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters to more modern performers like The Grateful Dead, Cassandra Wilson and John Mellencamp, but my favorite still has to be The White Stripes. I love how it runs from a slow, sad blues to heart pumping punk in just a few minutes, and it's also pretty great that Jack throws in a "Grinnin' In Your Face" break as well - the guy is clearly in love with the music of Son House.
